Maternal mental health is a critical yet often overlooked part of a family’s well‑being. In New York, nearly 20% of pregnancy‑related deaths in 2020 were linked to mental health conditions, and up to 40% of Latina and Hispanic women experience a maternal mental health disorder such as postpartum depression. In response to this urgent need, the Minette Foundation partnered with the Hispanic Federation—an organization with a long history of strengthening Latino communities through education, health initiatives, and social support—through their Maternal Mental Health initiative. Together, we aim to create safe, culturally responsive spaces where Latina mothers can share their stories, learn, and feel seen. Our shared mission is to break the silence surrounding maternal mental health and remind mothers that they are not alone.
On December 19, 2025, the Minette Foundation, in partnership with the Hispanic Federation, hosted free Perinatal Mental Health Workshops in English and Spanish, offering support, education, and connection for expecting and new mothers. The workshops provided practical guidance on prenatal and postpartum mental health, referrals for specialized care, and essential baby supplies—including diapers, ointment, lotion, and shampoo—to ease the burden many families face. Participants were welcomed with a hot breakfast or dinner, creating a warm and nourishing environment where mothers could focus on their well‑being. Through these gatherings, we continue our commitment to empowering Latina mothers with knowledge, community, and compassionate care.
